Her Leadership Experience Will Be Of Great Use To Us! Newly Elected Chairperson For Fairway Village Appoints Anita Among As Their Village Treasurer
The newly elected Chairperson of Fairway Village Local Council One, Proscovia Kirungi Kagaya, has appointed former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among as the village treasurer.
According to reports, Kagaya announced the appointment shortly after taking office, saying Among’s leadership experience would be valuable to the community.
Although Among, who is a registered resident of Fairway Village, did not participate in the local council elections, she was selected to serve as part of the village leadership team.
Kagaya said the decision was based on the belief that Among’s experience in public leadership could benefit residents of the village.
She explained that the community expects to gain from Among’s knowledge and skills gained during her years in leadership.
“Her leadership experience will be of great use to us,” Kagaya reportedly said while confirming the appointment.
The new village chairperson said Among remains an important member of the community and deserves an opportunity to contribute to local development.
Kagaya also revealed that she has been encouraging Among to remain strong and continue seeking comfort through prayer during her difficult period.
She said the community has continued to stand with Among as she goes through personal and legal challenges.
Among, who previously served as Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, has been facing public scrutiny following allegations raised against her.
She has been under restrictions since May 2026 as investigations into various allegations reportedly continue.
The allegations against Among include claims related to money laundering, corruption and other offences, which she has not been convicted of.
Authorities handling the investigations have continued examining the matters, while Among maintains her position regarding the accusations.
The appointment has attracted public attention because of Among’s previous influential role in Uganda’s political leadership.
Supporters of the decision argue that her experience in government can help the village leadership improve service delivery and community organisation.
Critics, however, have questioned the timing of the appointment given the ongoing investigations involving the former Speaker.
The Fairway Village leadership has maintained that the appointment is based on community considerations and Among’s ability to contribute to local affairs.
Kagaya said every resident has a role to play in developing the village regardless of their previous positions or current challenges.
The appointment means Among will now serve alongside other village leaders in addressing issues affecting residents.
Residents are expected to work with the new leadership team as it begins implementing plans aimed at improving the community.
The development has sparked debate about the role of experienced leaders in local governance and how communities can benefit from their expertise.
For now, Among’s appointment as Fairway Village treasurer marks a new chapter in her public service journey at the community level.
