High Court Changes Courtroom as Audio Clarity Issues Disrupt Besigye Treason Trial

Evidence submitted by witness Andrew Wilson Orlando as alleged devices used in recording Dr Kizza Besigye

Technical problems have forced the High Court in Kampala to change courtrooms as prosecutors continue presenting audio and video evidence in the treason case against Dr Kizza Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale.

The High Court in Kampala has continued listening to a two-hour-and-20-minute audio recording being presented as evidence in the treason case against Dr Kizza Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale.

Court officials on Tuesday moved the proceedings to Courtroom Three after yesterday’s session was affected by difficulties in hearing the audio recording clearly.

The officials attributed the change to technical problems and poor-quality equipment in the courtroom where the proceedings had initially been held.

On Monday, prosecutors played three videos allegedly recorded in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the evidence against the two accused persons.

For much of the videos, the back of a person whom prosecution witness British national Andrew Wilson identified as himself appears to cover more than half of the camera frame.

However, there is a three-to-five-second portion in which another person briefly crosses the frame, and Wilson told court that the person was Besigye.

The videos also show another alleged associate of Besigye, Joel Wakayima, whose face is clearly visible as he faces the camera.

Wilson, the first prosecution witness, is expected to present additional video and audio recordings from three other meetings allegedly held in Athens, Greece, and Nairobi, Kenya, among other locations.

The evidence is being presented as the prosecution continues building its case against Besigye and Lutale, who face treason-related charges.
