Lango Cultural Institution Paramount Chief Eng. Okune to be Coronated in Colorful Ceremony at Mayor’s Garden
His Highness Dr. Eng. Moses Michael Odongo Okune has called on all people of the Lango sub-region to prepare for a magnificent coronation ceremony that will showcase the Lango tribe to the world for the first time.
Speaking to a reporter on Tuesday in a telephone interview, Dr. Okune revealed that many people from all walks of life have shown interest in the upcoming coronation, making generous contributions.
He emphasized the importance of unity in Lango, urging everyone to speak the same language of cooperation and respect for all cultural leaders in the region.
Eng. Okune’s coronation will be a grand event, held at the Mayor’s Garden in Lira City on November 2nd, 2024. He was elected at the Akii-Bua stadium, winning by over 1,000 votes and gaining the support of over 170 clan leaders within the chiefdom.
Funding the event has been a challenge, with an estimated budget of 2.8 billion shillings needed to organize the installation of the new “Won Nyaci” (Paramount Chief-elect), Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune.
However, the event has garnered significant momentum and support from all walks of life, even reaching the global cultural scene with contributions from the Lango diaspora in places like Cairo, Nigeria, and Canada.
Support extends beyond the Lango region. Cultural leaders from Acholi, Kumam, Bunyoro (Uganda), Kenya, South Sudan, Busoga, and Alur kingdoms have all expressed their support and plan to attend the coronation of the new Won Nyaci of the Lango Cultural Foundation, Dr. Okune.
