Ssemakadde in Trouble As Karamoja MPs Demand His Resignation Over Demeaning Remarks Against DPP
A group of Members of Parliament from the Karamoja sub-region is demanding the resignation of Isaac Ssemakadde, President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), for allegedly using vulgar and derogatory language against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jane Frances Abodo.
The MPs are also calling for an immediate public apology for what they describe as an attack on both the DPP and the people of Karamoja.
The MPs expressed their outrage during a press briefing at Parliament. John Baptist Lokii, MP for Matheniko County, criticized Ssemakadde's remarks, questioning his upbringing and going as far as to suggest that his behavior was beyond comprehension.
Joseph Komol, MP for Dodoth North, also condemned Ssemakadde’s comments, describing them as an affront to Karamoja and to decency.
“The derogatory and vulgar words against Abodo and Karamoja are shocking. Everyone in Karamoja is saying this is madness. I think Ssemakadde is mad,” Komol stated.
The controversy stems from a public feud in which Ssemakadde allegedly used offensive language in criticizing DPP Abodo, including dragging Karamoja into the exchange.
The MPs argue that such behavior is unbecoming of a leader of the ULS and undermines the dignity of the legal profession.
