10 Dead, 22 Injured in Kyenjojo Taxi Collision
A deadly accident in Kyenjojo district has resulted in the loss of 10 lives and left 22 others injured. The crash occurred at Ngezi Trading Centre when two taxis collided around 8:30 pm on Wednesday. One taxi, with the registration number UBR 800S, was traveling from Fort Portal to Kampala, while the other, UBK 017N, was heading in the opposite direction.
The accident was reportedly caused by reckless driving from the driver of the taxi traveling in the opposite direction, according to Rwenzori West police spokesperson, Vicent Twesige. The collision led to the immediate fatalities and numerous injuries among the passengers in both vehicles.
Emergency responders quickly rushed the injured victims to Kyenjojo General Hospital and Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention. The authorities are working to identify all the victims and provide necessary support to those affected by the incident.
Twesige used the opportunity to warn drivers about the dangers of reckless driving, urging motorists to be more cautious while on the roads. He emphasized that such accidents are preventable and that road safety should be a priority for everyone.
