"Is Museveni Losing Control." NBS Frontline Panelist, Hon. Ssemujju And Others Discuss The Future.
Yesterday, Thursday, the 2nd of January 2025, saw the NBS Frontline, a political show on NBS TV, have its first session and edition of the year.
As usual, it is Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi, the show host, and the guest speakers present in the house were Andrew Mwenda, Hon. Asiimwe Enos of Kabula County, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, and Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi.
The topic under discussion was, "Do Museveni's pronouncements match the 2025 realities?" All the guest speakers gave their views and say on the topic, and below is a summary.
Andrew Mwenda:
"The development of Uganda has thus ceased to become a cause and has become a process.
I think that as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni progressively ages, he gets tired both physically and intellectually; his ability to retain control over state affairs has significantly diminished.
He liberalized the economy, privatized public enterprises, and deregulated many activities.
The consequence was a significant share of the economy was taken from the dead hand of the State then and put into private hands."
Hon. Asiimwe Enos:
"In my view, the President touched on pertinent issues in his end-of-year address to the nation that we expected as Ugandans.
He emphasized wealth creation and highlighted the challenges he found, including animal theft."
Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda:
"The President Museveni end-of-year address falls in the category of routine briefings, even when he has nothing to say.
I advised FDC when I had just joined from the media against routine briefings because these are announced and scheduled on a calendar, even when you have nothing to say, forcing you to look for what to say.
Museveni spoke like someone who had been sleeping and then woken up and told, 'Please remember, the address is tonight."
Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi:
"The only reason why we had a UGX 72 trillion national budget in the last financial year, which has now come down in the budget framework to UGX 57 trillion, is because he (President @KagutaMuseveni) was building a war chest.
The arrest of Col. @kizzabesigye1 at this critical time could be part of a scheme to scare people and intimidate the population."
Those were some of the major highlights from the Frontline show. What is your say on some of these statements made by the politicians in the house? Feel free to drop your comment below on your thoughts.
