Sserukenya Breaks Down in Tears as Radio Panel Tears Apart His Views on Politic

Makindye Ssabagabo MP David Sserukenya found himself at the center of a heated debate on 89.6fm Top Radio’s popular Saturday program, Nnegwozadde, after making controversial remarks about Uganda’s political opposition. Sserukenya criticized Mathias Mpuuga for founding the Democratic Alliance (DA), claiming it undermined Bobi Wine and the National Unity Platform (NUP), and labeled it an act of disunity in the fight against President Museveni.

His rhetoric was swiftly challenged by fellow panelists, including Kasanda LC5 Chairman Zimula, who rejected Sserukenya’s claim that only NUP, led by Kyagulanyi, had the right to oppose Museveni. Zimula argued that such views were undemocratic and suggested they mirrored the very dictatorial practices they condemned. The tension escalated when Sserukenya implied that even divine intervention supported Kyagulanyi’s leadership, a claim that was met with vocal opposition from other guests.

Zimula and panelists like Abdul Ssali pointed out the danger of stifling political pluralism, insisting that Ugandans should have the freedom to oppose Museveni through various political platforms, not just NUP. They reminded Sserukenya that the NRA, in its early days, did not demand that all opposition groups fall under its banner, thus preserving the principle of political diversity.

The discussion reached a peak when Zimula proposed that Dr. Sam Kazibwe, a well-regarded figure, be urged to run as an independent candidate in Makindye Ssabagabo in 2026. This suggestion was met with approval from many panelists, who viewed it as a way to offer voters an alternative to Sserukenya’s divisive approach.

In the end, Sserukenya’s controversial stance on political unity was strongly rejected, leaving him visibly uncomfortable as the panel called for greater tolerance and openness within Uganda’s opposition movements.
