Relief for Road Users as CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba Orders This on January 5, 2025

On 5th January 2025, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to address the pressing issue of Kampala’s deteriorating roads.

In his post, Muhoozi called on the public to identify and report major roads requiring urgent repair, pledging swift action. He stated: "Send me all main roads in Kampala that need to be repaired ASAP. God willing, we shall work on as many of them as possible."

This announcement has been well-received by road users, who have long expressed frustration over the poor state of roads in the capital. Frequent potholes, flooding, and lack of maintenance have caused significant inconveniences for motorists and pedestrians, prompting calls for urgent intervention.

Muhoozi's move follows a series of infrastructure challenges exacerbated by adverse weather conditions.

Late December 2024 saw heavy rainfall wreak havoc on the Mubende-Kasanda route at Kalongo, leaving it impassable. Flooding and road deterioration severely disrupted travel, forcing authorities to recommend alternative routes via Hoima, Kiboga, and Kagadi.

Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed on X that a joint team from the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and Police had been deployed to assess and repair the route. Travelers were urged to exercise caution and follow traffic guidelines during the recovery period.

The swift action by UNRA and the Police highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness and rapid responses to crises. Similarly, Muhoozi’s proactive call for public input demonstrates his commitment to tackling Kampala’s road network challenges, ensuring safer and more reliable mobility for all.
