"This Is Unacceptable" Bobi Wine & Ssenyonyi Stand by Injured MP Shamim Malende, Demand This

On January 21, 2025, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, and Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of the Opposition in Uganda, visited Hon. Shamim Malende, the MP for Kampala Woman Constituency, who has been recovering from injuries sustained in a violent assault at Parliament.

Malende’s condition worsened after she was brutally attacked by security forces during a protest by opposition MPs.

The chaotic incident, which occurred in the parliamentary chambers, left Malende with visible injuries, adding to her ongoing health struggles.

Bobi Wine and Ssenyonyi expressed deep concern about the MP’s health during their visit.

They condemned the actions of security operatives, calling them a violation of basic human rights. Bobi Wine, speaking to the press, said,

“It is unacceptable that leaders are assaulted for standing up for their people. This incident is just another example of how democracy and human rights are being disregarded in Uganda.”

Ssenyonyi echoed these words, emphasizing that the assault was part of a larger pattern of oppression faced by opposition leaders. He said,

“We must hold those responsible accountable. Shamim’s strength in the face of this brutality shows the resilience of our leaders, even in the face of constant challenges.”

The visit was a clear show of solidarity, with both leaders offering their full support to Malende. They also urged the public to pray for her quick recovery and return to her work.

Despite the challenges, Malende has vowed to continue fighting for the people she represents, refusing to be silenced by the violence she endured.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from human rights groups, who are calling for a thorough investigation into the attack.

Many are demanding that those responsible for the assault face justice, ensuring that such acts of violence are not repeated.

As Bobi Wine and Ssenyonyi continue to advocate for Malende, their messages are clear: no amount of intimidation or violence will stop them from standing up for democracy and the rights of the people.

“We will not be intimidated,” Bobi Wine stated firmly, promising to continue the fight for a better Uganda.
