UCE 2024 Results: 98% Pass Under New Curriculum, While Over 8,000 Qualify Under Old

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that 8,113 candidates who sat for the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams under the old curriculum have passed. This special examination was conducted to give students who failed in 2023 a second chance to transition to A’level.
UNEB Executive Director Daniel Odongo revealed that out of 10,141 registered candidates, 9,742 sat for the exams. Among them, 80 passed in Division One, 503 in Division Two, 1,710 in Division Three, and 5,820 in Division Four. However, 1,629 candidates failed and were classified as ungraded, while 399 did not sit for the exams.
Odongo noted that male candidates performed slightly better than females, and 88% of those who sat were from non-Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools. Cases of malpractice, including impersonation and external assistance, led to the withholding of some results.
Meanwhile, UNEB has reported that 98% of candidates who sat the 2024 UCE exams under the new curriculum have passed and qualified for certificates.
For English, 97.4% of students scored between grades A and D, while in Mathematics, 97.2% fell within the same range. In Chemistry, 93.9% of students achieved grades A to D.
Exceptional performance was also recorded in Art and Design, History and Political Education, Agriculture, and Mathematics.
However, the number of students scoring below basic levels was highest in Physics, Chemistry, and English. Despite this, Odongo commended the overall improvement in student competence, marking progress in the implementation of the new curriculum.
The results are available on examination centre portals, with hard copies to be collected later.
