Fear As Wife To Famous School Director Is Arrested Over Claims Killing A Pupil For Ritual Sacrifice

Police in Soroti have arrested Suzan Vivian Okedi, the wife of the director of Jozan Nursery and Primary School, in connection with the suspected ritual killing of 5-year-old Joan Faith Apio.
The East Kyoga Region Police Commander (RPC) Damalie Nachuha confirmed the arrest on Monday, February 10.
Ms. Okedi was taken into custody along with her brother, who was apprehended at the school premises. Their arrest brings the total number of suspects in police custody to five.
The school has since been closed and sealed off as police continue their investigations. Authorities believe crucial evidence may be found within the premises.
RPC Nachuha assured the public that the police are working diligently to gather evidence and ensure justice. She urged patience as the investigations continue.
“This is a sensitive case, and we are working closely with forensic experts to uncover the truth. The public should remain calm as we handle this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” Nachuha stated.
Apio, a twin, had only spent three days in the school’s boarding section before she was found murdered. Her throat had been removed, and her body was discovered locked inside the staff pit latrine.
The school matron, Ms. Osula Adong, found the body and described the scene with deep distress.
The incident has sent shockwaves across Soroti and beyond, with parents and community members demanding justice. Concerns over children’s safety in boarding schools have been raised, prompting calls for increased security and stricter regulations.
As police continue investigations, they have vowed to establish the motive behind the murder and identify all those responsible. Some parents have called for the permanent closure of Jozan Nursery and Primary School.
The case has also reignited public debate on ritual sacrifices in Uganda, with activists demanding stricter measures against those involved in such crimes.
