On Wednesday, Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel apprehended a couple at the Apieta checkpoint in Lamwo District for possessing an illegal firearm. The suspects, Golden Ricky Olanya, 46, from Ngora Village, Pobel Parish, Lukung Sub-County, and his wife, Jennifer Atoo, 28, from Amero Village, Lukili Parish, Aceba Sub-County, were traveling from Amuru District to Lamwo District on a Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UGG 453U, when intercepted around 2 PM.

Capt. Edwin Mawanda, Public Relations Officer for the 5th Division Infantry, confirmed the arrest, stating that the couple is detained for further questioning, and the UPDF has seized the firearm. A numberless pistol without ammunition was recovered from their possession.

This operation signifies progress in combating the illegal arms trade in the region. Lt. Col. Ipolito Mubangizi, the 01 Dumisha Brigade Commander under the Achol Pii 5 Division Infantry, commended the local community in Northern Uganda for their cooperation with security forces in fighting criminal gangs.
