Mulago Doctor Remanded in High-Profile Medical Forgery Case

A doctor from Mulago National Referral Hospital, Dr. Hassan Ssegujja, has been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of forging medical documents.

He appeared before Buganda Road Court on Monday, where prosecutors accused him of fraudulently creating false medical records.

According to the prosecution, Dr. Ssegujja, along with David Balondemu and others still at large, forged a prescription form dated November 7, 2023, and a CT scan medical form dated June 12, 2023, at Kampala Hospital.

The forged documents were allegedly used for undisclosed fraudulent activities.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, the prosecution opposed his release on bail, arguing that the investigation is still ongoing and that he could interfere with witnesses.

The presiding magistrate, Abert Asiimwe, remanded Dr. Ssegujja to Luzira Prison until his next court appearance.

David Balondemu, the Kampala District Land Board chairman, is also implicated in the case.

Authorities are still searching for other suspects involved in the forgery scheme.

The case has raised concerns about integrity within the medical profession.

Health experts and legal analysts warn that such crimes undermine public trust in the healthcare system.

Dr. Ssegujja is expected to return to court on March 18, 2025, for further hearing.
