Leaked Video Exposes NUP’s Huge Mistake They Did Yesterday That Led to Arrest of Many Foot Soldiers

A newly surfaced video has sparked controversy, showing National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters clashing with security forces in Kawempe during a campaign rally.
The footage, which has since gone viral, captures NUP foot soldiers hurling stones at Uganda Police Force (UPF) officers and Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT) operatives on duty.
This incident reportedly took place amid rising tensions in the Kawempe North by-election, where opposition figures have decried heavy security deployment.
According to eyewitnesses, police attempted to control a crowd of rowdy NUP supporters who refused to disperse. The confrontation quickly escalated, leading to violent exchanges.
Security sources argue that the aggressive behavior of some NUP supporters justified the subsequent arrests of dozens of individuals, including key opposition figures.
“These are the videos they never want the public to see. The narrative is always one-sided,” a security official stated, defending the police’s response.
On the other hand, NUP leaders maintain that their supporters were provoked by excessive force from security officers. They accuse the government of using intimidation tactics to suppress opposition campaigns.
“Our people have been beaten, tear-gassed, and arrested simply for supporting change. Now, they release selective footage to justify their actions,” an NUP spokesperson said.
The video has since divided public opinion, with some condemning NUP supporters for engaging in violence, while others criticize security forces for their heavy-handed approach.

Even as tensions continue to rise, political analysts warn that such confrontations could escalate further as Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections.
With the by-election drawing closer, both sides remain firm in their stance, leaving many wondering whether the political situation in Kawempe North will worsen before election day.
