Fresh Twist In Katanga Murder Trial As Court Halts Proceedings, Reasons Revealed

The murder trial of Molly Katanga has faced another delay after the High Court in Kampala stopped proceedings due to the absence of court assessors.
On Monday, Justice Isaac Muwata adjourned the case when the three assessors—Simon Atongo, Sharp Mutonyi, and Consolate Tabu—failed to appear.
The judge said that assessors must be present for the trial to continue, making it impossible to proceed without them.
Molly Katanga is accused of murdering her husband, businessman Henry Katanga. The case has drawn public interest, with many closely following the court hearings.
She has been in custody since January 2024 and has been denied bail several times, as the court considers the charges against her serious.
This is not the first time the trial has faced delays. Previous court sessions have been postponed due to various reasons, including the judge’s absence and the prosecution's failure to present key witnesses. The continued setbacks have raised concerns about the speed of the judicial process.
With no clear date set for the next hearing, the delay adds uncertainty to the case. The court is expected to communicate a new schedule once the assessors are available.
