Elias Nalukoola’s Victory Under Siege—NRM’s Faridah Nambi Launches Legal Fight

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially announced its decision to challenge the outcome of the recently concluded Kawempe North by-election.
The party’s candidate, Faridah Nambi, is set to file a petition in court, contesting the victory of the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Elias Nalukoola.
Erias Nalukoola, who ran under the NUP ticket, was declared the winner after a hotly contested race.
However, Faridah Nambi and her party have raised concerns over alleged irregularities that they claim affected the credibility of the election.
The NRM leadership argues that the electoral process was marred by voter intimidation, bribery, and other forms of malpractice that compromised the fairness of the results.
Speaking to the press, Faridah Nambi stated that her legal team had gathered sufficient evidence to prove that the election was not free and fair.
“We respect the democratic process, but we cannot ignore the glaring irregularities that occurred. We have a duty to challenge this in court,” she said.
The petition, expected to be filed soon, could lead to a protracted legal battle, potentially affecting the stability of Kawempe North’s political representation.
Analysts believe that if the court rules in NRM’s favor, the constituency could face another election, further prolonging the uncertainty.

On the other hand, NUP supporters have dismissed the NRM’s move as an attempt to undermine the will of the people. They argue that the ruling party is using legal means to overturn an election they lost fairly.
