Archbishop Ssemogerere Condemns Greed and Betrayal, Urges Moral Renewal at Kampala Archdiocese Silver Jubilee

Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere has issued a stark warning against the rising tide of dishonesty, betrayal, and moral decline in Uganda.
Preaching during Easter Monday Mass at Lubaga Cathedral, he lamented the deepening culture of greed and selfish ambition, urging the faithful to recommit to truth and compassion.
The Mass, attended by hundreds from across the Kampala Archdiocese, also marked the 25th anniversary of the Kampala Archdiocese Mass Servers Association, founded by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala.
In his homily, the Archbishop drew parallels between modern-day betrayal and that of Judas Iscariot, calling for national soul-searching.
“We are witnessing alarming levels of dishonesty and betrayal in our communities, even among those entrusted with leadership. This selfishness must stop,” he said, as murmurs of agreement swept through the congregation.
He urged both civil and religious leaders to reject corruption and become beacons of justice and service.
“Leaders at every level should be custodians of truth, justice, and service to others, not examples of corruption,” he said.
Despite the somber tone, Archbishop Ssemogerere offered hope, encouraging Christians to draw strength from Christ’s resurrection, especially in times of difficulty.
He praised Cardinal Wamala’s legacy, noting that the Mass Servers Association has played a vital role in nurturing young people in faith and discipline.
Earlier in the day, Fr John Mary Walugembe presided over a baptism ceremony in which more than 70 children were baptised.
He reminded parents of their role in instilling moral and spiritual values in the next generation.
The event was marked by prayer, music, thanksgiving, and quiet reflection, offering a moment of renewal for both the association and the broader Church.
As the Kampala Archdiocese Mass Servers Association celebrated its silver jubilee, the day became not just a commemoration but a call to moral clarity and spiritual rededication in uncertain times.
Despite the somber tone, Archbishop Ssemogerere offered hope, encouraging Christians to draw strength from Christ’s resurrection, especially in times of difficulty.
