Speaker Among Represents Museveni At Pope Francis Funeral

Vatican City — The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, is currently in Vatican City, Rome, where she is representing President Museveni at the funeral of Pope Francis.
The funeral, set to take place at St Peter’s Square on Saturday, will be attended by several world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and members of the British royal family.
Speaker Among, a devout Catholic, has maintained a longstanding relationship with the Vatican.
She has visited the Holy See on eight occasions, four of which included private audiences with the Holy Father.
Her most recent visit, in August last year, was especially significant as she had the rare honour of presenting her newly born twins to the Pope, who personally offered his blessings.
This morning, the Speaker had the honour of paying her last respects to Pope Francis at St Peter’s Basilica, joining thousands of mourners from around the world in celebrating the life and legacy of a pontiff who championed compassion, justice, and unity.
She was accompanied by the State Minister for Finance, Henry Musasizi; NWSC Deputy Managing Director, Sylvia Arinaitwe; Soroti City East MP Edmund Ariko; Iganga Municipality MP Peter Mugema; and Kibanda North County MP Linos Ngompek, and Uganda’s Ambassador to Berlin, Stephen Mubiru.
