Police Reveals Key Details on Accident Involving Businessman Rajiv Ruparelia
A tragic accident happened at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025. The crash occurred at around 1:54 AM and has sadly claimed the life of well-known Ugandan businessman Rajiv Ruparelia.
According to a statement shared by the Police on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, the accident involved a Nissan GTR car with the registration number UAT 638L.
Rajiv was driving from Kajjansi heading towards Munyonyo when the crash happened. The Police say that Rajiv’s car hit some temporary pavements that were placed at the roundabout on the flyover. After hitting the barriers, the car overturned and then caught fire.
Rajiv Ruparelia died on the spot. The Police confirmed that he was the only person in the vehicle during the crash.
Rajiv was the son of Sudhir Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s richest and most successful businessmen. Rajiv was not only a rally driver but also the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group.
This group runs several businesses in Uganda and East Africa, including in real estate, education, hotels, insurance, banking, and even farming and broadcasting.
The Police have said they are still investigating what exactly caused the accident. It is not yet clear whether it was due to high speed, a mechanical issue, or something else. More updates will be shared with the public once investigations are complete.
This news has shocked many people across Uganda, especially those who followed Rajiv’s work and his motorsport career.
He was seen as a young, hardworking leader in the business world. Many people are sending messages of condolences to the Ruparelia family during this difficult time.
