Reports indicated Diamond Platnumz was paid a whopping 750 million Ugandan shillings. This paycheck has since caused a storm among Ugandan artists.
Tanzanian and multi-award-winning artist Diamond Platnumz performed in Ntungamo district in Uganda over the weekend.
He performed at the much-publicized Coffee Marathon, which was sponsored by the government of Uganda.
Reports indicated Diamond Platnumz was paid a whopping 750 million Ugandan shillings. This paycheck has since caused a storm among Ugandan artists.
Many of them have since called out the government over wasting taxpayers' money and gifting it to a foreigner. They believe it would be better if the same amount were paid to a Ugandan.
Kataleya and Kandle raised the matter publicly through their social media, and dancehall musician Ziza Bafana did the same.
"Hey hey, Happy Sunday. Enjoy your day. Though we are also not happy with the 750M news ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ where does that money come from? Let’s start from there? Total waste of taxpayers' money." A statement from Kataleya and Kandle's X account read.
Other critics believe coffee promotion wouldn't call for a music show. They would have opted for other promotional strategies.
Other artists who performed at the event include Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, and Rwandan artist The Ben, among others.
The coffee marathon and concert were aimed at promoting coffee growing in the country
