Hon. Kwizera Urges Kisoro Leaders to Prioritize Residents’ Needs Over Matip Market

Kisoro, Uganda – The Member of Parliament for Bukimbiri County, Hon. Eddie Kwizera, has called upon Kisoro Municipal authorities to shift their focus from the stalled Matip Market project and instead prioritize the delivery of essential services that directly benefit local residents.

Hon. Kwizera made these remarks on Saturday during a feasibility study with municipal authorities. His tour included visits to Gatimba Market, the New Park, and the Old Market, where he engaged in discussions with a cross-section of vendors regarding the challenges faced by traders across the municipality.

Vendors highlighted poor working conditions, including trading in open spaces and inadequate health facilities within the markets. Municipal authorities attributed these issues, in part, to the delayed construction of Matip Market, citing it as a major impediment to effective service delivery.

However, Hon. Kwizera urged the authorities not to use the Matip Market delay as an excuse, emphasizing the critical importance of addressing current issues affecting residents’ livelihoods. He further stressed the need for collaboration and cooperation among district leaders to enhance overall service delivery in the district.

Kisoro Municipality Mayor, Ndyana Richard, commended Hon. Kwizera for his initiative and urged the public to be patient as anticipated development programs begin implementation.

In response to Hon. Kwizera’s recommendations, Deputy Town Clerk Nteziyaremye Moses pledged to take action, including the grading and leveling of both Gatimba and Old Markets to improve working conditions for vendors
