Minister Evelyn Anite Announces Uganda’s New Television Network

Uganda’s Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment, Evelyn Anite, has announced that Ugandans at the Mbale Industrial Park are now assembling one of the world’s largest televisions — the TCL 115-inch model.Evelyn Anite made the revelation during an update on the government’s industrialization drive, highlighting local efforts to expand technology manufacturing and create jobs.

“Ugandans at Mbale Industrial Park are now assembling the mother of all TVs — the TCL 115,” Anite said proudly.

This massive television set, often referred to as the “king of screens,” is known globally for its cinematic experience, ultra-high-definition resolution, and smart technology features.

The assembly of such a product in Uganda marks a major leap in the country’s industrial capabilities, especially in the field of electronics.

While the announcement sparked confusion among some Ugandans who mistakenly thought Anite was launching a new TV station, her statement actually refers to a manufacturing milestone — not a broadcast network.

The TCL 115 assembly project is part of a broader partnership between Uganda and global electronics companies to promote local production.

The project is expected to offer employment opportunities to hundreds of youth in the region and reduce reliance on imported electronics.

Mbale Industrial Park has become a growing hub for light manufacturing and value addition under Uganda’s “Buy Uganda, Build Uganda” (BUBU) policy.

The introduction of high-end electronics into its assembly line signals both confidence in local skill development and a government push for innovation-driven growth.
