Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza, has raised concern over the growing technology gap among women in leadership, saying it threatens their full participation in critical decision-making spaces.

Speaking during a leadership forum, Kiiza stated that while women have made strides in securing positions of power, many still lack adequate knowledge and tools to use technology effectively. This, she emphasized, puts them at a disadvantage in today’s fast-evolving digital world, where decisions are often driven by data and innovation.

“Most women in leadership lack adequate knowledge and tools to use technology effectively, yet it’s the way to go. This gap is affecting our participation in decision-making,” she said.

Kiiza explained that many women leaders struggle to access digital platforms or interpret technological data, making it difficult for them to compete with their male counterparts or push policy changes. She added that the digital divide is more pronounced in rural areas, where connectivity and digital literacy remain low.

She called for targeted training programs, mentorship, and affordable access to smart devices to help bridge the gap. According to her, empowering women with technology is not just about inclusion, but about strengthening leadership outcomes at all levels.

Kiiza’s remarks come at a time when digital transformation is shaping governance globally. Without urgent intervention, she warned, many capable women may be left behind.

Her message was a strong reminder that bridging the gender-tech divide is key to achieving meaningful and inclusive leadership in Africa
