Eng. Winnie Byanyima, wife of opposition stalwart Dr. Kizza Besigye, has said her husband is open to dialogue a statement many have described as a potential turning point in the country's polarized politics.

Speaking during a live NBS Television broadcast from Kasangati on Wednesday morning, Byanyima said, “The Besigye I know is open to dialogue.

Why? Because he is a democrat. He has put himself out, dedicated himself to giving Ugandans a fair chance to choose their leaders.”

Dr. Besigye, a four-time presidential contender and fierce critic of the Museveni regime, is currently in detention. His uncompromising stance over the years has earned him both admiration and criticism.
