Kabatazi Elvis, aged 26, appeared before Mukono Chief Magistrate Peace Namunu charged with the murder of Hamidah Mutesi Nalule, a 35-year-old money lender.

The incident occurred on June 5, 2025, in Namuyenje village, Nakisunga Sub-county, Mukono District, where Kabatazi allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times inside her Toyota Fielder, registration number UBR 759V.

Police investigations reveal the attack followed a dispute over a Shs18 million debt Kabatazi had failed to repay.

After the stabbing, Kabatazi attempted to flee in the victim’s vehicle but was intercepted and apprehended by local residents who witnessed the crime.

The victim was left bleeding inside the car.

At court, the murder charge was formally read to Kabatazi, who was remanded to Kauga Government Prison until the next hearing scheduled for July 3, 2025.

The courtroom was tense as family members of the deceased expressed anguish and sought justice.

Anita Nalule Mutesi, sister to the late Hamidah, condemned the attack.

“Even if he failed to pay the debt, that wasn’t a reason to kill our sister in such a cruel and heartless way. We hope the court delivers justice,” she said.

Meanwhile, Kabatazi’s family, led by Susan Nabuti, expressed disbelief over the allegations.

“Our son has always been calm and peaceful. We find it hard to believe he did this. We suspect another person may be behind this crime and that he has been framed,” Nabuti stated.

The case remains under investigation as the court prepares for further proceedings next month.
