The Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo, has spoken about the recent strike by Arts teachers. He said that although the teachers went on strike, the government has been talking with them to find a peaceful solution.

Minister Muyingo explained that the strike began after the teachers raised concerns about their working conditions, pay, and other important issues affecting their profession.

These teachers, who teach subjects such as History, Literature, Music, and Fine Arts, felt that their needs had been ignored for too long.

He assured the public that the government took the concerns of the teachers seriously and started engaging with their leaders immediately. “We have not been silent,” said Minister Muyingo.

“From the beginning of the strike, we have held meetings with the teachers’ union to understand their demands and see how best we can support them.”

The Minister noted that these talks have been going on for several weeks and that the discussions were honest and respectful.

Last week, there was a major breakthrough. The leadership of the Arts teachers agreed to call off the strike after reaching an understanding with the government.

According to Minister Muyingo, the decision to end the strike was made in good faith.

“Their leaders showed a lot of maturity and concern for the learners, especially those preparing for final exams,” he said.

He thanked the teachers for listening to the government and showing willingness to return to work
