MP Suspends All His Campaigns After Recent Fatal Tension In His Rally

Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo has suspended all campaign activities following a violent incident during his rally in Kireega village, Sembabule District, on June 26, 2025.
The clash, involving armed soldiers and NRM supporters, resulted in the death of Fred Ssembuusi and injuries to Ssekikubo and another supporter.
The altercation began when Ssekikubo's supporters clashed with those of his rival, Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande, over loud music during the rally.
Eyewitnesses report that soldiers, allegedly linked to Rwashande's camp, intervened and opened fire after being confronted by the crowd.
Ssekikubo sustained a gunshot wound to his finger, and another supporter was injured in the head.In the aftermath, Ssekikubo condemned the use of force and accused Rwashande of orchestrating the violence to intimidate his supporters.
He has called for an independent investigation and vowed to halt his campaign until the safety of his constituents is assured.
The Uganda People's Defence Forces have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The Sembabule District authorities have convened a security meeting to address the escalating tensions and prevent further violence in the lead-up to the 2026 elections
