Kampala, Uganda | The Uganda Law Society (ULS), through its Radical New Bar (RNB) chapter, has expressed deep concern over the unexplained disappearance of Advocate Barnabas Tinkasiimire, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Buyaga West.

In a statement issued by RNB Vice President Mr. Asiimwe Anthony, the Society reported that Tinkasiimire has not been seen or heard from since Saturday, 28 June 2025.

His family and colleagues say he was last sighted around 4:00 p.m. at the Rubis Petrol Station in Makerere, opposite Makerere College School, where he had reportedly stopped to refuel his car.

According to accounts from those close to him, he may have been taken by unknown individuals traveling in a van, described as heavily armed and operating without visible identification.

While details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the ULS says it has contacted the relevant authorities and begun preliminary inquiries, though no definitive information has yet emerged.

“Advocate Tinkasiimire is a respected member of the legal fraternity and a public servant,” said Mr. Asiimwe.

“We are following up on all possible leads and remain hopeful for his safe return. We urge anyone with credible information to share it with the Uganda Law Society Secretariat.”

The Society also used the opportunity to raise awareness about the broader issue of enforced disappearances, which have increasingly drawn concern among civil society actors and human rights defenders.

The ULS emphasized the need for due process, transparency, and the protection of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

Lawyers and advocates have been encouraged to take necessary precautions, inform their families of their movements, and remain vigilant in the current environment.

The ULS reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders, including security agencies, to ensure that any cases of disappearance are investigated thoroughly and addressed appropriately
