Church of Uganda Donates Scholastic Materials to Nakivale Refugee Camp

The Church of Uganda has donated 195 reams of paper to Finn Church Aid (FCA) for distribution to schools in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, aiming to bolster education services for children living in the camp.
The materials, donated by Mengo Senior School, form part of the ongoing Church of Uganda Appeal launched in April 2025 to provide tangible humanitarian assistance to refugees.
At the handover ceremony held in Namirembe, Kampala, Mr. Balaam Muheebwa, Provincial Treasurer of the Church of Uganda, reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to supporting refugee communities alongside government efforts.
“As a country, we have over two million refugees because of Uganda’s hospitable and accommodative refugee policy that provides a safe haven to the displaced. As Church of Uganda, we are complementing government efforts with support from our partners,” Muheebwa said.
He added that each refugee camp has unique challenges, and the scholastic materials are intended to help school-going children in Nakivale, many of whom face disrupted education due to difficult circumstances.
Receiving the donation on behalf of FCA, Mr. Robert Bahenyangi, Consortium Manager, praised the Church of Uganda for its continued support.
“These scholastic materials will go a long way in ensuring that children have access to education and in promoting learner retention in existing schools. Nakivale is a strategic choice as it hosts the highest number of refugees in the region,” Bahenyangi said.
This donation follows an earlier intervention on May 26, 2025, when the Church, through its Directorate of Household and Community Transformation (HCT), sent relief items to Nakivale under the Ankole Diocese.
The Church’s ongoing humanitarian effort is part of its broader commitment to assisting refugees fleeing conflicts in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.
