Why Mubende LC5 Chairman Ntambi Went Bare Knuckles With Kisanja During Heated NRM Campaign

Fresh drama rocked Mubende district on July 4 when Michael Muhereza Ntambi, the LC5 chairman, physically clashed with his opponent, Vincent Tumusiime Gahanga Kisanja, during a heated NRM joint campaign meeting at Bujaala Village, Butoloogo Sub-county.A video that has since gone viral on social media shows Ntambi pushing and shoving Kisanja as local residents looked on in shock.
The altercation erupted after Kisanja stormed the meeting, accusing Ntambi of defying the NRM district executive committee’s agreed campaign schedule.
“You were told not to campaign here today because you failed to submit your program to the RDC and the district committee. You are illegally here,” Kisanja was heard shouting, using a microphone as his team watched anxiously.
Despite calls for calm, the confrontation escalated when Ntambi physically forced Kisanja out of the meeting space. Witnesses say Ntambi accused Kisanja of deliberately sabotaging his campaign event, claiming that Kisanja and his allies had already tried to disrupt his activities earlier that day.
“He came and found us in a peaceful community discussion and began shouting like a madman. The residents wanted to beat him up, but I personally stopped them,” Ntambi narrated, defending his actions.
Kisanja, accompanied by fellow candidates Ali Ayebazibwe and Alex Pius Ssengonzi, condemned Ntambi’s behavior, urging voters to reject leaders who promote violence.
Addressing the residents through his loudspeaker, Kisanja appealed, “You have seen how he behaves; I urge you to vote for leaders who respect the law and the party structures. On July 24, vote for Kisanja.”
The scuffle has sparked a heated debate online, with many users criticizing the NRM’s strategy of holding joint campaigns, arguing that they risk igniting more chaos rather than fostering party unity.
Observers believe the incident is a sign of deepening rifts within the ruling party’s local leadership in Mubende, especially as competition for votes intensifies ahead of the coming elections.
Meanwhile, some party loyalists have called for disciplinary action against both leaders to set an example and restore order within the district
