“I Had to Let Them Go” — Bobi Wine Reportedly Sacrifices Own Siblings for New Faces in Gomba Races

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Bobi Wine has reportedly decided not to support his own siblings in the upcoming 2026 elections in Gomba District.Instead, he is backing other candidates who are seen as fresh faces in the party.
According to reports from Mulengera News, Bobi Wine’s elder brother Eddie Yawe will not be given the NUP flag for Gomba East, even though he had shown interest and had even changed his National ID to contest in that area.
This decision comes after Yawe defended his nephew Churchill Sentamu, who attended a government event at Makerere University where President Museveni was the guest.
This upset many NUP supporters who felt Churchill was too friendly with the ruling party.
Because of that, Eddie Yawe lost favour with top leaders at Magere, the NUP headquarters. He had earlier stepped aside from competing in Kira Municipality, leaving space for George Musisi. But now, he might end up without a seat at all.
Instead, Bobi Wine and the NUP leadership are said to be supporting Flavia Namulindwa, a former Bukedde TV presenter, for the Gomba East seat.
This has also annoyed the current MP Godfrey Saasi, who may leave NUP and join former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga’s new party, Democratic Forum (DF).
In a related decision, Bobi Wine’s sister Betty Sentamu Semanda will also not retain her NUP ticket for Gomba Woman MP.
The seat has reportedly been reserved for Aidah Nakuya, a former NRM youth leader and Kampala street activist. Betty’s recent alliances with some NRM members may have played a role in this decision.
The woman likely to compete against Nakuya is Nakato Kyabangi, a former MP who recently resigned from her job at State House and is now planning to run under DF.
These decisions have sparked debate among NUP supporters, with some praising Bobi Wine for putting the party above family, while others feel he has betrayed his own
