"We Shall Chase Bobi Wine Out of Kampala" NRM’s Sigh Katongole Warns NUP as Election Fever Heats Up

National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Sigh Katongole has issued a fiery warning to supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, as Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections.Addressing his supporters in Rubaga on Sunday, Katongole declared that the ruling party will not tolerate any attempts by NUP to undermine its stronghold in the capital city.
“This time NRM is not joking. NUP will not get any votes in all elections, and if they don’t stop fighting us, we shall chase Bobi Wine out of Kampala,” Katongole said, as the crowd cheered.
Katongole, who has long been a vocal NRM mobilizer in Kampala, accused NUP leaders of inciting violence and misleading the youth with promises they cannot fulfill.
He claimed that NRM has concrete plans to improve livelihoods, create jobs, and maintain peace and stability, while opposition leaders focus only on chaos and division.
His remarks come at a time when political tensions in the city are rising, with both parties beginning early mobilization activities.
Bobi Wine, who commands a significant youth following, has continued to criticize President Museveni’s government for what he describes as corruption, human rights abuses, and economic mismanagement.
However, Katongole insisted that voters in Kampala have started realizing the "lies" of NUP and will overwhelmingly support NRM candidates in 2026.
He promised that the party would launch robust grassroots campaigns to reclaim areas previously dominated by the opposition.
NUP officials have not officially responded to Katongole’s statements, but several party supporters on social media condemned his threats, urging their leaders to remain focused on peaceful political change.
Analysts say Katongole’s comments are part of a broader strategy by the ruling party to weaken NUP’s influence in urban areas, especially in Kampala and Wakiso, where Bobi Wine performed strongly in the last elections.
The Electoral Commission is expected to release the official election roadmap later this year, but early signs suggest a highly competitive and tense campaign season
