Mpuuga’s Surprise Appearance with Katikkiro Shakes NUP Supporters

Photos of Hon. Mathias Mpuuga with the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, have sparked surprise and speculation among National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters. The images, taken at a cultural event in Masaka City, quickly went viral over the weekend.The event was held in Buddu County and is part of Buganda Kingdom’s ongoing cultural campaign. It aims to solidify the Kingdom’s bond with its subjects and preserve heritage in the region.

Mpuuga, former Leader of the Opposition and now a Democratic Front leader, was invited as a special guest. His presence has raised eyebrows given his fallout with NUP leadership earlier this year.

He was joined by fellow Democratic Front figures Hon. Abed Bwanika and Hon. Juliet Kakande. All three politicians left NUP after being accused of corruption, a charge they have strongly denied.

Their appearance alongside the Katikkiro is now fueling speculation of a growing alliance between disgruntled former NUP leaders and the Buganda Kingdom’s top leadership.

Adding fuel to the controversy, Minister Sam Mayanja recently claimed he has credible intelligence that Katikkiro Mayiga is secretly backing Mpuuga’s political ambitions.

According to Mayanja, Mayiga is allegedly the main force behind the Democratic Front and is grooming Mpuuga for a possible presidential run in 2026.

These claims have yet to be substantiated, and no official response has come from the Katikkiro or the Buganda Kingdom’s leadership regarding the allegations.

Meanwhile, NUP supporters continue to express shock online, with many calling for clarity on Mpuuga’s political direction and his growing ties to the Buganda Kingdom
