Brig. Sserunkuma Promoted to Major General in UPDF Reshuffle

President Museveni has promoted Brigadier Wilberforce Sserunkuma to the rank of Major General, in recognition of his decades of service and contributions to national and regional stability.
The promotion was announced in a radio message issued by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who praised Sserunkuma’s loyalty and dedication, tracing his journey from the National Resistance Army (NRA) to his longstanding career in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Sserunkuma currently commands the UPDF 3rd Infantry Division in Moroto, a region that plays a key role in Uganda’s border security and disarmament operations.
His leadership has been instrumental in sustaining stability in the Karamoja sub-region and along Uganda’s eastern frontier.
In his response, Major General Sserunkuma expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to the UPDF’s values.
“I am deeply honored by this recognition from the Commander-in-Chief,” he said.
“This promotion is not just mine—it is for every officer and soldier who has walked this long journey with me. I pledge to continue serving Uganda with loyalty, discipline, and dedication to peace.”
The promotion has been welcomed across military ranks as a reflection of the UPDF’s commitment to recognizing merit and long-standing service.
“Congratulations to the General Officer for the well-deserved promotion,” said Major Isaac Oware, spokesperson for the UPDF 3rd Division.
