Bus Driver Killed, Four Others Injured in Katosi-Nyenga Road Crash
One person has died and four others were injured in a fatal road crash that occurred early Monday morning along the Katosi–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District.
According to Traffic Police, the accident happened at around 1:30 AM in Katovu, Ngongwe, and involved a Scania bus, registration number UA 354AN, belonging to Gateway Bus Company.
The bus was en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Katosi route.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a front tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, leading the bus to overturn on its right side.
The driver died on the spot, while four passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.
Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said officers promptly responded to the scene and transported the injured to Nkonkonjeru Health Centre and Kawolo Hospital for treatment.
The driver’s body was taken to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
"The vehicle has been towed to Ngongwe Police Station as investigations commence," Kananura said.
In the wake of the incident, Kananura urged motorists to prioritise road safety.
"We urge all drivers to conduct regular vehicle maintenance checks and strictly follow road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents," he added.
