Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard Noah Mutwe Recounts Arrest Ordeal as Court Grants Bail in Incitement Case

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Noah Mitala, popularly known as Noah Mutwe and a bodyguard to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, recounted how he was forcefully taken from his home by plain-clothed security operatives before being charged with inciting violence and spreading malicious communication.

Mutwe, who was charged alongside police detective ASP Charles Twine, was released on a Shs5 million cash bail by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court after spending two months in detention at Luzira Prison.

Speaking shortly after his release, Mutwe described how unidentified operatives raided his residence at dawn without a warrant and whisked him away in an unmarked vehicle. “They blindfolded me and said I had a case to answer, but I only got to know the charges after being taken to court days later,” he said.

His account adds to growing concerns from human rights organisations about the pattern of arbitrary arrests targeting opposition figures and their associates.

The state accuses Mutwe and ASP Twine of publishing harmful and inciting messages on social media platforms that allegedly targeted senior government officials, causing alarm and public unrest.

Prosecution argued the duo's actions undermined public order and threatened national security, though defence lawyers insisted the charges were politically motivated.

Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi granted bail on condition that the accused report to court twice a month and provide two sureties each bonded at Shs10 million non-cash.

Outside the court, dozens of NUP supporters welcomed the decision, chanting slogans in support of Mutwe and demanding the immediate release of other political detainees.

The case has been adjourned to August 12 for mention, with many now watching closely as the legal and political implications of the case continue to unfold
