Former IGG Beti Kamya has been appointed by President Museveni as his advisor on general duties.

Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Namisango Kamya as his advisor on general duties, barely a month after she exited the ombudsman’s office.

Kamya, who served as IGG until last month when she was replaced by High Court judge Aisha Naluzze Batala, now assumes a new advisory role with benefits reportedly tailored specifically to her appointment.

Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda confirmed the development during Museveni’s campaign rally in Bugweri District. “Yes, it is true that the President appointed her as his advisor on general duties,” Kirunda said.

President Museveni signed the instruments of appointment on October 31 and directed the Ministry of Public Service to formalise the deployment.

Ministry of Public Service Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate acknowledged receiving the directive but declined to provide further details. “As a ministry, we received the Presidential directive about the appointment, and we are simply implementing it; we have no official comment to give,” she stated.

Sources familiar with the matter say the benefits attached to Kamya’s new position are exclusive to her and are not expected to apply to future advisors.

Kamya served as IGG from July 15, 2021, succeeding Justice Irene Mulyagonja, who held the office from 2012 to 2019.

She previously served as Minister for Kampala and Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development. Her latest appointment adds to the long roster of individuals currently serving as presidential advisors.
