MBALE CITY FATAL ACCIDENT UPDATE: Sino Truck Driver Arrested over Death of Two
A Sino truck driver, John Mabonga, has been arrested by Mbale Northern City police over a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two people earlier today.
The incident occurred on November 18, 2025, at around 9:25 AM at Afya, along the Mbale-Kumi road, when the truck, registration number UBH132J/UBH 322J, knocked down a motorcycle, registration number UMA 372DE, from behind.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the motorcycle rider and his passenger, both male adults, were killed instantly. The victims have not been identified.
He says the police report attributes the cause of the accident to reckless driving by the truck driver. The bodies have been taken to the city mortuary for postmortem, and the vehicles have been impounded pending investigation.
The police are continuing their inquiries into the matter.
