Matheus Cunha has reportedly suffered a training ground accident
Matheus Cunha has sustained an injury during training with Manchester United. The Brazilian attacker had just returned from international duty to link up with Ruben Amorim and his team-mates ahead of their forthcoming clash with Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night.
But it has now been revealed that Cunha has suffered an accident at the training ground. The 26-year-old was due to switch on the Christmas lights in Altrincham on Saturday night, but VisitAltrincham announced that the player would no longer be attending due to 'medical reasons.' The organisation posted on Instagram: "Unfortunately, Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight's Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons."
The club have yet to provide an official statement. The development comes as the majority of the Manchester United squad returned to Carrington this week following a fortnight-long international break for the concluding round of World Cup qualifiers.
However, several key players remained side-lined, including Benjamin Sesko, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo - all of whom are nursing various injuries. The news arrives as United aim to improve their Premier League position when they welcome a resurgent Toffees outfit under David Moyes' guidance on Monday.
The Red Devils enter the fixture on an impressive unbeaten streak spanning five matches, securing victories against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion FC, as well as draws with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham. Currently positioned 10th in the Premier League table following 11 fixtures, the club trails league leaders Arsenal by just eight points.

Matheus Cunha joined Manchester United for training this week
Nevertheless, Amorim faces several injured players to navigate ahead of his team's Monday evening showdown with Everton. Sesko sustained a knee issue during United's encounter with Spurs before the international break, ruling him out until December.
Maguire was also withdrawn from the same fixture due to a hamstring problem, with Amorim confirming he "is not ready" for their next game. Mainoo was absent entirely from the Red Devils' fixture with Spurs altogether owing to a knock, though he may potentially feature at the Theatre of Dreams on Monday depending on progress.
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez could finally make his eagerly-anticipated Premier League comeback against the Toffees. The Argentinian defender suffered an ACL injury in February which has side-lined him for most of 2025, though reports suggest he is approaching full match fitness
The 27-year-old returned to full training ahead of the international break, although Amorim decided not to play him immediately. Despite not receiving a call-up for his country, Martinez did join Argentina to train and continue his journey to full fitness during the break.
Speaking about the possibility of featuring on Monday evening, Amorim stated: "Licha is getting close to be playing," - a comment that will surely be welcomed by United fans across the globe.
