The Presidential candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, concluded his campaign in Greater Mubende with a stop in Mityana District. He urged residents to protect wetlands, emphasising their importance to the environment.
In Mityana District, President Museveni noted that some residents are misusing wetlands. He said the government plans to educate communities on how to properly utilise wetlands for production without degrading the environment.
He pledged to tarmac the Kanoni–Bbanda–Maanyi–Ssekanyonyi–Busunju road. However, he explained that delays in the project were caused by poor leadership from individuals elected by the people of Mityana, whom he accused of prioritising personal gain over public service.
He urged voters to support NRM flag bearers to ensure development projects are implemented effectively.
Museveni also encouraged residents to increase food production and reserve some of their harvest for future use and income generation.
He called on the people to maintain and promote peace, noting that peace is a key pillar of the NRM government. He warned that many countries have collapsed due to failure to uphold peace.
NRM Vice Chairperson Alhajji Moses Kigongo thanked the President for visiting Mityana District and urged residents to maintain peace and unity before, during, and after the elections.
Meanwhile, Mityana District NRM Chairperson John Kintu thanked the President for the development initiatives implemented in the district.
He also highlighted some of the challenges facing Mityana, including the lack of an X-ray machine at the main district hospital, and appealed for government support.
