Museveni resumes 2026 campaign today with rallies in Butambala, Mpigi
Butambala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni resumes his nationwide presidential campaign today, Monday, December 29, 2025, with scheduled rallies across the Greater Mpigi sub-region, as the 2026 election race enters its final stretch of the year.
According to the official NRM campaign programme, Mr Museveni is scheduled to address voters in Butambala District earlier in the day before heading to Mpigi District for an afternoon rally.
The Greater Mpigi engagements mark the President’s return to active field campaigning following recent sectoral meetings in Kampala and the metropolitan area, where he has been outlining economic empowerment initiatives targeting urban workers, youth groups, and informal sector associations.
The Greater Mpigi tour forms part of the intensive efforts by the ruling National Resistance Movement intended to consolidate support in central Uganda, an opposition stronghold.
Mr Museveni is expected to highlight NRM’s track record on infrastructure development, wealth creation programmes, and security, while also addressing cost-of-living concerns and employment opportunities.
Campaign mobilisers in Butambala and Mpigi told DailyExpress that preparations for Museveni’s grand entry were completed over the weekend, with party structures now mobilising supporters from surrounding sub-counties and town councils to throng and fill up the rally venues.
Soon after the Mpigi tour, the President is scheduled will on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, conclude his 2025 campaign activities with a tour of the Greater Luweero sub-region, where he started the campaigns 90 days ago on 30th September.
Museveni will hold rallies in Nakaseke District and Nakasongola District, areas historically associated with the origins of the NRM and its political support base.
