MUBS, Victoria University Lecturer Found Dead Inside His Bed

Police in Kira Road Division are currently investigating the sudden death of Dr. Tom Patrick Mugizi, a 64-year-old lecturer at Victoria University and MUBS, who was found dead in his bed under mysterious circumstances. The tragic discovery was made on January 3, 2026, after the deceased’s sister, Nsasiirwe Annet Runtemu, grew concerned when she could not reach him by phone since December 31, 2025. Fearing the worst, she asked a neighbor to check on him, and the neighbor found Dr. Mugizi’s lifeless body in a decomposed state inside his home in Kisota Zone, Kikaaya Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

The house was found unlocked, with no signs of forced entry or missing property, ruling out burglary. Upon arriving at the scene, police officers documented the situation, spoke to witnesses, and transferred the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased had a history of chronic illnesses, which may have contributed to his untimely death, though investigations are still ongoing.

As the police continue to gather evidence, the cause of Dr. Mugizi’s death remains unclear. His passing has left many in shock, particularly within the academic community, where he was a respected figure.
