Bududa DPC in Trouble over Bobi Wine’s Campaign Route Diversion
Bududa District Police Commander, Hassan Musoba has been transferred after Robert Kyakulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flagbearer diverted from the original agreeable routes with security during campaigns in the district.
According to a security source in Bududa District, before Robert Kyagulanyi’s arrival, security officials met with NUP leaders and agreed on the routes to be used.
The source stated that they agreed to use the Manafwa route direct to Bukigai Playground without passing through Bududa Town Council which was later not followed.
On January 3rd, NUP decided to use an alternative route via Mbale District to access Bududa Town Council without informing the police, before proceeding to the agreed-upon Bukigai Playground venue.
Fazali Nabende, NUP Coordinator for Elgon Region, explained that they intentionally deviated from the agreed route because Bukigai was closer to Manafwa District, where they had completed campaigning, and they expected attendees from Manafwa to attend the rally, rather than just Bududa residents.
He explained that they chose the Mbale District route because it passes through the district to the town council before reaching Bukigai, the main rally location.
Julie Namara, Bududa Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the incident, stating that the DPC has been transferred, but not interdicted, to an undisclosed next assignment.
However, Samuel Asimwe, the Elgon region police commander says Musoba has been recalled back headquarters pending deployment.
