Kayunga District Report on the 2026 Elections and Post-Election Period Implicates Moses Karangwa
The 2026 general elections in Kayunga District have unveiled a shocking narrative involving allegations of electoral malpractice, intimidation, and political manipulation, with Moses Karangwa at the center of the storm. The election results have brought a considerable shift in political allegiance, with National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Harriet Nakwedde declared the winner over her closest rival, Aidah Nantaba.
Reports indicate that Kobusingye Jackline garnered only around 6,000 votes, a stark contrast to the inflated figure of 15,000 attributed to her by her father. The people of Kayunga are unequivocal in their condemnation of Karangwa, accusing him of fostering division and hatred in the district. “Karangwa has been a divisive figure in our politics for far too long,” said a local resident. “It’s time for change.” Despite the great work of Kayunga RDC, Moses Karangwa has continued to fight this propeople RDC. Kalangwa work with the deputy RDC and assistant RDC to undermine the RDC MARIAM Nalubega.
Senior military and political figures linked to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) played a crucial role in ensuring Nakwedde’s victory, detecting and preventing potential violence among supporters. Agatha Nalubwama, a candidate for Woman MP, emerged as a fierce ally of Nakwedde, actively fighting for her at the district tally center. “I stood with Nakwedde because she represents the hope of our district,” Agatha said in an interview. I was genuinely elected by Kayunga People but land grabbers wanted to take my Victory – Nakwedde harriet said.
The political rivalry has reached a boiling point, with Agatha Nalubwama confronting the district returning officer over allegations of collusion with Karangwa. She accused him of working against the interests of Kayunga residents and President Museveni, claiming that Karangwa’s poor political habits have tarnished the NRM’s reputation in the district. “Karangwa’s actions are a cancer to our party,” Agatha stated. Agatha Nalubwama went into the rally Centre with 87% of Declaration forms and would use these to challenge fake results which the district returning officer was declaring on orders of Kayunga most hated man Moses Karangwa.
Karangwa and Nantaba Aida now face an uphill battle for political survival, with many blaming Karangwa’s actions for the dwindling support for the ruling party in Kayunga. Allegations of electoral malpractice have emerged, including the misuse of NRM Party resources by Karangwa. “We’ve seen it all – ballot stuffing, intimidation, the works,” a local observer noted. The money from NRM secretariat which was meant for 30 people per village was instead used by Karangwa to buy people to vote for his daughter kobusingye Birungyi Karangwa. despite of the bribery, Kayunga People rejected Karangwa and his family. Iam happy to witness the fall of Karangwa and Nantaba – a 66 year old man in kayunga stated.
The atmosphere leading up to the elections was marred by low voter turnout, attributed to the climate of fear and intimidation orchestrated by Karangwa and Nantaba. Violence erupted in Kayunga town, with reports of shootings that left two youths injured, further deterring voters from participating in the electoral process. We were afraid to vote,” said another resident. “We didn’t want to risk our safety.”
The police, under the command of the District Police Commander (DPC), seemed to act in concert with Karangwa’s agenda, with supporters of Agatha Nalubwama facing harassment and arrest on fabricated charges. It’s clear the police were working against us,Agatha claimed.
Despite the challenges, support for President Museveni remains strong among certain factions in Kayunga. The UPDF’s involvement in maintaining peace and order during the elections has been commendable, with commanders working tirelessly to ensure a safe environment for voters. Kayunga politicians never Mobilised for President Museveni Apart from the RDC, General kinalwa, Gen Gowa kasita and members of community Peace defenders.
Protests erupted in Kayunga following the election results, reflecting public outrage against the perceived electoral injustices orchestrated by Karangwa and Nantaba. Citizens are demanding accountability and an end to the rampant arrests of political opponents, urging the President to take a stand against the misuse of power in the district. “Museveni should act now,” a protester said. “We won’t tolerate this any more. We are fighting Moses Karangwa not President Museveni – youth chantted in most of the trading centres in kayunga district.
The future of Moses Karangwa and his political legacy hangs in the balance as the people of Kayunga seek to reclaim their voice and autonomy in the face of oppression. As one resident put it, “This is bigger than Karangwa – it’s about our district’s future.
We had hope that Kayunga will be fully liberated under the leadership of Agatha Nalubwama but we have only got a partila liberation with Nakwedde Harriet winning the Woman MP seat for Kayunga. We are however grateful that Kayunga People united against Karangwa and his hated family-a market vendor in kayunga market stated.
Its clear that in kayunga, no NRM Candidate or flag bearer won. The field based survey indicate that all seats were won by NUP Flag bearers but District returning officer declared Otherwise. Patrick Nsanja in ntenjeru south scored over 70% and his Victory was handed over to NRM flag bearer. In same vein, in ntenjeru north, Minister Amosi Lugoloobi only scored 45% below NUP Flag bearer enginer kafero. Kayunga People are in total shock regarding Declaration of Lugoloobi and baseke Fred.
