Joint security forces in Kaabong District have recovered two guns and arrested suspects in separate operations, dealing a blow to criminal activity in the area. The first operation, conducted on January 28 in Losera Village, Kamion Sub-county, led to the recovery of an SMG rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Security forces also arrested two suspected armed warriors, Lotuwa Lokwang, 20, and Lochokio Lokwi, 19, both residents of Losera Village, who had allegedly been terrorising road users by staging ambushes along major roads in Kaabong District.

The Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole, confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects were among individuals in illegal possession of firearms. “The duo confessed to being armed and actively involved in road robberies, mainly targeting boda boda riders and other road users,” Longole said. The suspects allegedly operated mainly in Kalapata and Kamion sub-counties.

In a related operation, joint security forces recovered another SMG rifle with one round of ammunition from a suspected armed warrior, Guti Lopul, a resident of Lomunyang Village in Kathile Town Council. According to police, Lopul, who had been terrorising Kathile and Morungole sub-counties through road ambushes and robberies, voluntarily surrendered the firearm to local leaders, who later handed it over to security personnel.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Achia, a boda boda rider in Kaabong Town Council, said armed warriors remain active across the district, particularly along major roads. “Nowadays, the warriors rarely kill. They ambush road users, take all their belongings, and disappear,” Achia said.

He noted that while the arrested suspects are part of the criminal network, many others remain at large and continue to threaten residents. Achia appealed to joint security forces to intensify operations in Kalapata, Kamion, and Kathile sub-counties, which he described as the most affected areas.

“The warriors have shifted from stealing livestock to robbing petty items just to survive,” he said, calling for increased security to curb the growing threat.
