MUKONO: 92-Year-Old Man Murdered in Suspected Land Dispute
Police in Mukono District are investigating the murder of Katabarwa Hassan, a 92-year-old resident of Kyawanvubu Village in Namataba Town Council, in what is suspected to be a land-related dispute.
The incident occurred on Thursday, when Katabarwa was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants. He was later rushed to Kawolo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Confirming the incident, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said preliminary investigations point to a possible family land wrangle as the motive behind the killing.
“Suspected family land wrangles are part of the inquiries,†Owoyesigyire said.
Police note that land and property disputes remain a persistent cause of violent crime in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, including Mukono District. In 2018, police records showed that at least 16 out of 50 suspected murder cases investigated in the region were linked to property-related conflicts.
The body of the deceased has been conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
“A murder case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects and establish the weapon used,†Owoyesigyire added.
Police have urged the public to resolve land disputes through legal channels and to provide any information that may aid investigations.
