Abed Bwanika Allegedly Admitted As Reports Of Battling Depression Emerge

Former MP Abed Bwanika has kept a low profile ever since losing the recent parliamentary elections in Masaka, where he was defeated by a candidate from the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The outspoken politician has not been seen in public for weeks, a situation that has now sparked fresh speculation about his wellbeing.

According to unconfirmed reports, Bwanika is allegedly battling depression and mental health challenges, and is said to have been admitted at Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital in Kampala.

Sources claim that Bwanika has spent over a week at the facility as doctors work to stabilise his condition. It is further alleged that the family has chosen to keep the matter private for his own recovery and peace of mind.

Bwanika is widely known for his strong criticism of NUP and its president Bobi Wine, and last year he even claimed that the opposition had lost political ground in Masaka.

However, those claims were dismissed during the January elections after NUP swept almost all parliamentary positions in the city and surrounding areas, including the seat Bwanika was contesting.

By press time, no official statement had been issued by Bwanika or his family regarding the reports.
