A fresh dispute has emerged within Uganda’s music industry after Eddy Kenzo accused fellow artist Bebe Cool of misrepresenting information to President Yoweri Museveni regarding funds reportedly allocated for studio equipment.

Speaking during an interview at the Uganda National Museum, Kenzo who heads the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) alleged that Bebe Cool secured funding in 2025 after presenting the initiative as a shared recording studio project intended to benefit multiple artists.

According to Kenzo, he was later informed that the equipment was meant strictly for Bebe Cool’s personal use and would not be accessible to other musicians as initially implied.

Kenzo’s remarks come amid heightened debate in the creative industry following President Museveni’s recent pledge of UGX 5 billion to support content creators. The announcement has sparked discussions about transparency, equitable access to funding, and accountability within artists’ associations.

In the same interview, Kenzo also commented on opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, suggesting that some individuals who have achieved personal success continue to criticise the government. He referenced property reportedly owned in Busabala and Magere, although there is no publicly verified evidence directly linking President Museveni to the acquisition of those assets.

The comments have drawn mixed reactions, with some industry players calling for greater clarity regarding the management of public support extended to creatives, while others caution against escalating divisions within the sector.

The matter remains under public scrutiny as stakeholders await further clarification from the individuals involved.
