Former NDA boss Bitekyerezo collapses As Judge Accepts IGG guidance Not To Swear-in The New Board Members

Former Mbarara MP Medard Bitekyerezo has refused to accept the fact that his tenure as Uganda national drug authority NDA chairman ended on 20th February when his contract expired, along with that of the other 19 members of the board.

He has for instance continued holding on to the NDA vehicle, a double cabin, which the Authority Asiimwe Dandasi continues to use to deliver stuff to the boss’ farm in Rukungiri.

Through this same driver, a request has been made to a powerful general in the Ugandan security to provide personal security to the former NDA chairman Bitekyerezi, just in case the IGG chooses to arrest him for contempt. The former chairman also generally fears for his security.

The bitter truth is that Bitekyerezo currently is not NDA chairman anymore because his reappointment has clearly been quashed by the IGG in writing. The IGG says that procedural requirements weren’t followed by the minister while reappointing the board.

The IGG has written two letters making it clear that NDA currently doesn’t have a board. The first letter was written on 26th February and another one on Monday 2nd March. The IGG has made it clear that any attempt to carry out any work in the name of the board will cause Bitekyerezo and other board members problems of being punished for committing a crime.

Even when this is the case, Bitekyerezo, who used to frequent NDA offices as if he is a member of staff or part of top management, had insisted to continue holding himself out as the legitimate NDA board chairman.

On Monday he convened a meeting at four points by Sheraton hotel in Kololo which he purported to be a board meeting yet he clearly no longer has that authority.

The planned defiant swearing in ceremony flopped after the female judge-Gladys Kamasanyu- who had been expected to swear them in, opted out after the contents of the IGG letters were brought to her attention. This made Bitekyerezo, a self-professed board room activist, to collapse and die in his own movie.

Some board insiders considered smuggling in another judicial officer to administer the oath, through a former NDA employee called Leila Katusiime. This could land perpetrators into contempt proceedings for disregarding lawful orders by the IGG!

At the end of the meeting, Bitekyerezo, who has refused or failed to accept he is no longer a big man at NDA, directed the Authority lawyers and top management to write to the IGG and state to her that they can’t respect her dieectives against the board because there is a court case contesting his reappointment as board chairman.

The case was filed by Owayezu Mark under HCT miscillaneous cause no. 0059 of 2026. The case challenges the reappointment of Bitekyerezo as board chairman of NDA and its based on the fact that the mandatory procedures weren’t followed.

The management that was represented by the secretary, lawyer Diana Kabuzire, head quality management the very beautiful Dora Namyalo, PA Hereria Asingwire and the all powerful board driver Dandasi Asiimwe was directed by Bitekyerezo to put up a serious fight to make sure that the IGG’s interference and familiarity, as some board members called it, is defeated.
