According to Kazo District Education Officer Lamech Mwine, the decision followed a rigorous investigation that confirmed widespread examination malpractice at the centre.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has nullified the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for 61 pupils of Kigarama II Primary School in Kazo District over examination malpractice.

According to Kazo District Education Officer Lamech Mwine, the decision followed a rigorous investigation that confirmed widespread examination malpractice at the centre.

The affected pupils, who had hoped to transition to secondary school this year, will now be required to repeat Primary Seven and retake the national examinations in 2026.

Mwine confirmed that the results had been withheld for several months as UNEB investigators examined reports of irregularities at the examination centre.

“The investigation uncovered a coordinated effort to cheat, involving both school staff and external monitors,” Mwine said.

He described the incident as unfortunate and blamed corruption among those responsible for managing the examinations.

“This is a very unfortunate incident for our district. It is a direct result of corruption by the school administration and the supervisors who were supposed to ensure a fair process. Instead of protecting the future of these children, they chose shortcuts, and now it is the pupils who must pay the price for the adults' dishonesty,” he said.

The nullification has caused distress among parents and the school community, with many expressing frustration after already struggling to pay school fees for their children.

Under UNEB guidelines, once results are cancelled due to proven malpractice, the candidates lose their grades and must re-register to sit the examinations again as first-time candidates.

The District Education Officer said the district is now considering disciplinary action against teachers and invigilators implicated in the malpractice scandal. He warned that academic dishonesty undermines the credibility of the education system in Kazo District.

As the 2026 academic year approaches, the district education department has pledged to tighten supervision and monitoring of examinations to prevent a repeat of the incident.
